Garon Park Shed is excited to announce that during Mental Health Awareness Week, on Wednesday May 17th 2023 they will be hosting the hilarious comic John Ryan who will talk to us about how to look after your health and wellbeing, all while making you laugh!
Who is John Ryan?
John is an award-winning comedian who also works in men’s health. By combining comedy with practical advice, John is living proof that laughter really is the best medicine.
His shows on the comedy circuit are highly-acclaimed - even the Daily Telegraph called him a ‘genius’ - but it is his work in men’s mental health that is truly ground-breaking. His Home Front project with the Army toured many army bases and won him a second Royal Society of Public Health Arts and Health Award in 2015. The first came in 2010 for his work in prisons. He has even had a research paper published in the Journal of Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology on how comedy can boost mental wellbeing.
He has also worked with rail and construction companies to offer his take on health issues.
He also contributes podcasts to this website - quite a feather in any cap, arguably second only to his column in the Waltham Forest Guardian.
That's Not All
We have been able to secure sponsorship from one of our shed supporters, The Hog Roast Company, who will provide a hog roast bap for everyone and the event will take place in the plush surroundings of the Boundary, an award winning venue located in the grounds of Garon Park, where there is a bar for those that would like a glass of something with lunch!
Tickets
Tickets will be on sale shortly from TicketSource, at just £5 including lunch and all the laughs you can handle!
Whilst, as a community organisation run by volunteers, we need to be able to cover our costs of at all possible and we can do this by selling tickets. However, we are not looking to make a profit and so any excess we do make will be shared equally between the shed, to help fund further projects and
